PandaDroom - Efteling (NL)
Lately rumors sprung up that say PandaDroom will be revamped to Fabula, which will probably be a more fantasy version of the already existing show.
This show has been criticized by Efteling-fans from it's opening in 2002. In the last few years the fact the film and effects are outdated. That last word is THE word to describe this attraction in my opinion. Personally I don't think the problem is necessarily that the real world message in a park centered around escapism. The attraction is just really outdated and not up to Efteling's standards.
The preshow is really long-winded and boring. This -supposed to be- cave has no roof, unless caves are made from corrugated steel, and it lacks details. It is also huge for the amount of people that visit the attraction. There is never a queue, so the hall feels very empty, which makes it even sadder.
The main film is in 3D, altough you get your 3D-glasses before the preshow, which can be confusing. You sit in long wooden benches which are really uncomfortable. The 3D doesn't work anymore, probably because the glasses were distorted of over time. Some effects don't work anymore and the effects that do are not realistic at all. For example: the film shows a walrus blowing slowly, while the effect you feel is a strong and short burst of air. The film was advertised as true by nature, but by today's standards it all looks like one bit cartoon.
I think there is still hope if they take this revamp seriously, and not as any other maintenance project. They have to take about 80% out and start mostly from scratch to make this a high quality attraction. But because I don't see this happening, I believe the building would have been better of being demolished or reused for something completely different.
